Mason Matejcek grew up in the small town of Gonzales, Texas. You’ve probably heard of Gonzales because of its famous saying “Come and Take it” used in the battles of Gonzales during the Texas revolution in 1835. Despite all the Texas history, miles of Guadalupe and San Marcos river Gonzales had to offer, Mason always found himself at the coast thanks to his dad’s shared love of fishing.  His family raised chickens for Tyson Foods, as well as cattle. Mason is pretty sure his grandparents regretted giving him his first fly rod when they found out he would be pursuing a career in fishing instead of running the family farm.
Now-a-days, Mason Matejcek is a full time fly fishing and light tackle sight casting guide on the Texas coast from Rockport to Port O’ Connor. Mason has been guiding these waters full time, for over a decade and fishing them longer than he can remember. In Mason’s opinion, fly fishing the flats of Texas is one thing you have to experience if you call yourself a fly fisherman. Having fished many places around the world, Texas is still favorite fishery of all.

When he’s not fly fishing, you’ll probably find Mason in a duck blind with his black Labrador Riggs. Aside from fly fishing, Mason also guides duck hunts. If you’re interested in going duck hunting, be sure to go to Rockporttxduckhunting.com.
